The endorheic – Exorheic transition and later stage of fluvial incision in a wet tropical margin setting: The Atlantic draining Paraíba do Sul River basin (Brazil)

چکیده
Present-day endorheic drainage systems are rare in tropical humid regions and/or close to the coast. During late Cenozoic, under a climate, Paraíba do Sul River basin (SE Brazil) has developed along South America passive margin. This currently drains into Atlantic Ocean, but it preserves landforms that indicative of previous paleodrainage. study examines possibility this region was for most Neogene, prior establishment present-day and discusses transition from an exorheic system. Data obtained through analysis geomorphological features identified by remote-sensing techniques verified fieldwork, as well interpretation landscape evolution models elaborated Seppômen method. Five convergence areas possible paleobasins, Quaternary (or Pliocene) have been within basin. Each area is associated with Cenozoic graben separated structural highs which would formed paleodrainage divides. The mechanism endorheic-exorheic overspill, inland regressive erosion or, more probable, combination between these two processes. In fact, processes often occur concomitantly both contribute same result: expansion incision permanent channel infill. geological ancestral River, draining later strongly controlled very low sea levels during determined stage fluvial incision. No numerical dating yet proposed transition; nonetheless, published regional denudation rates suggest occurred sometime interval 21 5 Ma (Miocene Pliocene). decrease subsidence aforementioned grabens much wetter climate promoted overspill connection Atlantic.

DNA barcodes discriminate freshwater fishes from the Paraíba do Sul River Basin, São Paulo, Brazil.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Considering the promising use of DNA barcoding for species identification, the importance of the freshwater fish fauna of the Paraíba do Sul River Basin, and its advanced stage of degradation, the present study evaluated the effectiveness of DNA barcoding to identify the fish species in this basin. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 295 specimens representing 58 species belo...
متن کاملDissolved Black Carbon in the Headwaters-to-Ocean Continuum of Paraíba Do Sul River, Brazil
Rivers annually carry 25–28 Tg carbon in the form of pyrogenic dissolved organic matter (dissolved black carbon, DBC) into the ocean, which is equivalent to about 10% of the entire riverine land-ocean flux of dissolved organic carbon (DOC). The objective of this study was to identify the main processes behind the release and turnover of DBC on a riverine catchment scale. As a model system, we c...
متن کاملPareiorhina hyptiorhachis, a new catfish species from Rio Paraíba do Sul basin, southeastern Brazil (Siluriformes, Loricariidae)
Pareiorhina hyptiorhachis is described from Ribeirão Fernandes and Rio Pomba, Rio Paraíba do Sul basin, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from its congeners (Pareiorhina brachyrhyncha, Pareiorhina carrancas, Pareiorhina cepta, and Pareiorhina rudolphi) by the presence of a conspicuous ridge on the trunk posterior to the dorsal fin (postdorsal ridge), simple teeth, a completely naked abdo...

this thesis aims to adduce an unmitigated and comprehensive explication concerning the relationship of three significant elements of fiction: setting, chracter and theme. my research is basically placed on two outstanding novels of the 19th century: emily brontes wuthering heights and thomas hardys return of the native. my endeavour lies in studying the correlation among the three above-mention...
15 صفحه اولDistribution and population structure of the fish Cyphocharax gilbert (Characiformes: Curimatidae) in the lower Paraíba do Sul River, Brazil.
The distribution and population structure of Cyphocharax gilbert in four areas of the lower Paraíba do Sul River and its major tributaries (22 degrees S, 43 degrees W) were analyzed between March 1989 and February 1990. The species was common throughout the area, preferring major rivers with high turbidity and sand-mud substrates and range of length and size of specimens found varied depending ...
